(Reshare old post) Salary Negotiation – 4

Today I would like to outline the salary negotation cycle.

Following the completion of all interviews, HR initiates the salary negotation process. If you are deemed the right candidate, you will come across the following steps:

1. HR will notify you the result, reconfirm your current salary & expectation and ask you to wait for a brief period (2 – 3 days after the final interview)

2. HR will consolidate the feedback and salary info, then send out the info to the hiring manager or even HRBP for approvals (it depends on the company’s approval structure). This step may take a longer duration, ranging from a few days to 2 weeks.

3. Upon receiving all necessary approvals, HR will engage in salary negotation with you.

4. If you are unsatisfied with the offer, HR will assist you in negotiating a better package (normally it will take 2 – 3 days)

5. Repeat step 3-4 until offer is either accepted or declined.

Occasionally, the salary negotation process may be prolonged due to factors such as headcount freezed or a tedious internal approval process. Consequently, it might make you wonder if joining the company is meant to be or not.
