Today I would like to talk about ownership!
If you are not sure what ownership is, below is the definition from Cambridge:
1. the fact of taking responsibility for an idea or problem
2. the fact that you own something:
FYI: https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dic……/english/ownership
When I started my first job, I always heard this word. In fact, I was not able to fully understand its true meaning until I became a leader in my team. We always talk about someone having to take the ownership, however, it’s not just taking on responsibilities. Instead, it’s someone fully dedicated to the assignment. He / She is the owner of the task and willing to take any risk to complete it.
Let me share an example of myself. During my HR journey, I worked for a few companies and industries. There was a time when I joined an IT consulting firm and had to recruit IT talents. As a recruiter without any IT background, it was pretty hard to understand my candidates at the begining. In order to speak and understand their languages (esp. programming languages), I enrolled in a one-year IT foundation programme (cost me around USD$1400) and learnt the basic IT knowledge (including IT security concepts, IT programming languages: SQL, PHP, HTML etc.). To be honest, I believe not many recruiter would take the same action. However, my intention was not just get the job done, I had to respect my job and my candidates as well.
That’s all for today!
