This afternoon I had a dicussion with my colleague regarding Personal Branding and Personal image. It was a very interesting conversation that I would like to share with you guys~
During our conversation, my colleague raised a solid point: Personal image is how people view you from their perspective, normally it’s just a glance; personal branding is how you showcase yourself to others, it has long term effects.
This reminds me another term HR often uses: Employer branding.
As a recruiter, it really takes time to build upan Employer brand. It’s culture-related and becomes the inner self of the employees if the employer branding is successful enough. Let’s say Apple, its employees should be quite familiar with two words “Enrich Lives”. These are the first two words on the wallet-sized Apple Retail credo card for all employees. With this credo, they are using it as the standard to find kindred spirits. The minute you step into Apple Retail store or even use an Apple’s product, you should have the same feeling. While some people may not buy into its idea, you cannot deny its employer branding attracts numerous of job applicants and creates Apple Fans or iSheep successfully.
Therefore, when people say your name, what word comes to their mind? How they judge you not by the book cover? If you are not in the room, what they are talking about you? Good or Bad? It is your reputation, as well as your brand.
So, for all the candidates, do remember personal branding is very similar to employer branding which has long term effects and it takes time to build up personal branding, but you need to on the right track. Next time, I will continue this topic and share how to acheive it.
