Today, would like to share some advice on how to write your “Work experience” section. Apart from being a recruiter, I am a Resume Consultant and provide guidance to candidates (cdds). When reviewing cdds’ cvs, there are always some common issues:
– cdds dont know how to describe their duties and responsibilities
– exp are too long and tedious
– dont know how to present themselves properly
An effective CV can help you standout from the competitors and land an interview opportunity, however, many people do not realize the power of a tailored CV.
A bespoke CV is deserved for your dream job! When preparing the CV, cdds always have a perception that one standard cv can be used for all job applications. Obviously, it’s totally wrong. If you are a Java Programmer applying for a role requiring JavaScript experience, even though if you have some relevant JS side projects, but you do not mention it on your cv and instead only focus on your Java exp, you will likely get passed over by the recruiter. OR if the role requires regional experience, that you have, but you just generically described experience collaborating with “other departments” rather than noting some of the departments were specifically in the required regions like APAC or Africa, your candidacy may be less of a priority compared to others.
Therefore, it’s very important to carefully review the JD, identify the keywords and ensure you included the relevant experience. Next time, I will use an example to guide you on finding these keywords.
Stay tuned!
