During salary negotation, HR will request you to disclose your current salary or even provide pay slips for reference, with different purposes behind each request:
1. Disclose your current salary:
Some candidates may question why they need to disclose personal or confidential info?
First of all, disclosing your current salary helps us determine if the increment is reasonable. Secondly, we have to get HRBP approval for the salary proposal. Without the information, we cannot complete it.
Moreover, disclosing your current salary enables us to advocate for your expectations effectively. For instance, if you seek a 20% increment, but your current salary already surpasses the team’s average, we need this information to prepare the salary proposal. We consolidated all interview feedback and justify your salary expectation accordingly.
2. Share your payslip
Firstly, it serve as a proof of your current salary and aiding negotiations with all business stakeholders. It helps persuade others that your requested salary is justified.
Secondly, it acts as an integrity test. Lying about your current salary would eventually be revealed, and honesty is a trait valued by all companies. Multinational companies value integrity and may revoke an offer if they discover any false claims.
That’s all for today ~
