(Reshare old post) CV Writing – 6

Today’s topic would be “Summary” / “About Me”.

Candidates often ask me if a “Summary” or “About Me” is necessary. To be honest, it serves as a quick glance for me, as I prefer to focus on the details rather than a description. Of course, a catchy Summary would probably get the recruiter’s attention, normally we spent 6 – 10 seconds to review cv only. So, when should you include a Summary or About us? How can they help you stand out?

Quoted from Indeed:

“A CV summary is an abstract of a candidate’s professional background at the top of their CV. Employers typically read these summaries before reviewing the rest of an application package. If you’re seeking a job, writing a CV summary with the right content and structure can help you capture the attention of potential employers and become more competitive for a position.”

Beyond providing a recap of your previous experience, this section is also an opportuinty to share additional information that may not be evident later on. For instance:

Relocation: you just relocated to a new country and are looking for a job, this is the perfect place to tell the recruiters that you’ve settled down and are seeking new opportunities.

Career Change: If you’re transitioning to a new career, you can use this section to explain the reasons behind the change and outline your job expectations, supplementing the information from your previous work experience.

Crafting a compelling summary not only showcases your professional background but also allows you to convey unique aspects about yourself that can set you apart from other candidates.

That’s all for today, see you next week~
